Artist Statement
Kevin Kane explores the human form through the realm of portraiture and figurative art. He possesses a fascination for the intricacies of gender and sexuality, and how society dictates and defines ideas of love. His art is informed by the influence of a religious Catholic upbringing and its impact on the repression of one’s authentic self. Kane uses various media and mark making techniques to explore human relationships, including self-relationships, and connects narratives that incorporate aspects of societal awareness. Drawing upon a rich spectrum of mark making, Kane ventures from the realm of hyper realistic painting to expressive, gestural brush strokes. It is within this range of mark making that Kane discovers a channel to convey the nuanced complexities of their subjects’ experiences, inviting viewers to delve beneath the surface and explore the rawness of human vulnerability.Their scientific background and analytical mindset inform an exploratory approach, melding artistry and innovation into a seamless whole.
