William Thompson, a dynamic artist hailing from the quaint town of Between, Georgia, currently resides in Canton, Georgia. At 41 years old, William’s life journey has taken him through diverse realms, from the hallowed halls of academia to the vibrant world of mixed media artistry. Despite his legal education, William found his true passion outside the courtroom. His artistic pursuits, nurtured through sporadic classes in painting, drawing, and glass blowing, became a vital part of his identity. For the past 15 years, William has dedicated his downtime to art, affectionately dubbing his style as “Southern American Sumi-e.” His creations are a testament to his eclectic tastes and interests. His mediums and method of choice is foundationally Sumi Ink and India Ink painted on Bristol Vellum with fine brush strokes. His technique, a combination of minute ticks and lines slowly grown into a total piece of definitive depth and shadow, reflects his self-described “Self-Creating Prophecy ” approach, which balances intricate detail with a spontaneous, ADHD-fueled creativity. His work is heavily influenced by his love for science fiction and the natural world, resulting in pieces that are both whimsical and meticulously crafted. This dual existence fuels his creativity, allowing him to approach his art with a unique perspective. His work is not driven by the need for revenue, which allows him to create works that “Pop into his head like small movies.” His creations are often times from a single song he is listening to as he paints. His philosophy is straightforward: he creates art that he enjoys, with the hope that others will appreciate it as well.
