Michele Fowler

Although I have always used art in my professional work as a counsellor for young people, I only began my professional artistic practice four years ago.
My key discovery was the life force within paint and liquid media. I use vibrant inks, pigments, and paints, allowing materials to behave autonomously, hopefully reflecting my rebellious spirit and ever-growing understanding of their interactions.
I never cease to be inspired by the colours in nature and more recently the beautiful pictures taken from the James Webb telescope, not forgetting my artistic hero, the incredible Frank Bowling. I work with minimal tools — mainly droppers, pipettes, and Chinese brushes — to preserve the organic movement of colour.
Colour drives my practice. I often wake with a colour combination I feel compelled to explore, allowing my subconscious ideas, music, and materials to merge into works hopefully marked by freedom, spontaneity, and resistance to conventional painting traditions.
