Mark Woods

Mark Woods is a North London based illustrator and plein air painter, and a graduate of Central Saint Martins College of Art, where he graduated with a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration. Woods’ practice is grounded in direct observation, producing restrained, highly attuned works that distil the character and atmosphere of a place.
Working across a range of media, he employs a fluid, intuitive approach, allowing each subject to dictate its own visual language. His paintings and drawings are defined by an economy of mark and a sensitivity to light, structure, and surface. Eschewing excessive detail, Woods instead suggests form with precision and restraint, creating compositions that are both immediate and quietly evocative.
The urban landscape is a central focus of his work. He is particularly drawn to buildings in states of transition, structures on the cusp of renovation or demolition. These works function as intimate architectural portraits, capturing not only the physical presence of these spaces, but their temporal significance within an evolving city.
Woods has exhibited widely in London and around the UK, including numerous Affordable Art Fairs, and at established contemporary galleries such as Green & Stone, Candid Arts Trust, Stark Gallery, Ovenden Gallery, and the Francis Iles Gallery.
